About the Production

Presented right before the COVID 19 pandemic, this production of Into the Woods asked a very important question: “Are the messages of the fairy tales still relevant today?” Set in 2020, Chippewa Falls High School’s production explored the iconic characters of the Sondheim classic as if they lived in in the present day. Each of the characters was presented as their modern day version: Little Red as Goth, the Stepmother and Stepsisters as the Kardashians, The Princes as Frat Boy Social Media Influencers, The Mysterious Old Man as a Homeless Veteran, The Wolves as Predators at a Party, Rapunzel as a Flower Child / Hippie, etc. Using only props and costumes to adjust the timeframe, this production was praised for this interpretation and went on to be nominated for and awarded several Jerry Awards - Wisconsin’s High School Musical Theatre Awards.
